IMPULSIVELY STARTED JET IN CROSS-FLOW
Eyad R. Hassan and Richard M. Kelso
Turbulence, Energy and Combustion Group at the University of Adelaide, Australia

The image shows the instantaneous cross-section of an impulsively started jet in cross-flow 1.5 seconds after the initiation of the flow. The imaging plane 1.5 jet diameter downstream of the jet exit in a plane orthogonal to the cross-flow. The image was collected using Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence of Rhodamine 6G dye. The Jet to Cross-Flow Velocity ratio is 4.2 and the Jet Reynolds Number is 1250. Notice the numerous vortical structures and the symmetry.
