Particle Tracking Velocimetry

“Particle
tracking velocimetry”
is a variety of PIV in which one tracks the motion of individual
particles, as opposed to measuring the movement of the group of
particles that resides in an interrogation volume. PTV is usually
performed on planar images. If it is applied to volumes viewed with
multiple cameras having large depth of focus (and correspondingly poorer
lateral resolution) it is referred to as “deep-field velocimetry”.
